Ida’s Leftovers

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Ida is slamming the coast of Maryland, Delaware, the Carolinas, and Virginia. Ida’s remains is currently intensifying off the East Coast. Look for another inch possible from the storm through tomorrow night. Winds will be gusting around 25 mph, with steady winds around 15 mph. Ocean City, MD is going to get a pounding from this storm. Lots of beach erosion and possibly wind gusts of 60 mph.

“Ida” is currently being suppressed from traveling northward by a fairly strong high pressure that is sitting over the southern Canada. These pressure differences are interacting with each other causing relatively large pressure differences over a small area. The high pressure wants to come to equilibrium and therefore a wind flow from high pressure to low pressure is then created. When the pressure differences are large and over a small area, the wind wants to rush from high pressure to low pressure faster.

Meteor shower next week! Earth will pass through the leftovers of the comet Tempel-Tuttle which causes the Leonid meteor shower. The Leonid meteor shower will occur on November 17th/18th. This would be Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. Wednesday morning will be the best viewing time. Hopefully there are clear skies!

Oh by the way, meteorologists really screwed up on Ida forecast. It wasn’t even supposed to come up this way! This Sunday look for a little warmer temps (mid 60s), but then remain in the 50’s for the beginning of next week.

NEW POST!!!!

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Hey hey hey… long time no see my die hard poochieweatherers. So I haven’t updated in a long time and I am sorry about that…

But worry no more. Now that we’re getting into winter Poochie Weather will be at full impulse power.

This winter there is a lot of hype about a big winter… A lot of stuff is pointing in that direction and we are definitely due for a good winter, it has been a while. I am skeptical though. No one can predict the weather two weeks in advance, nevertheless two-three months, so we will just wait and see.

As for weather this week, it’s gonna be chilly. Wednesday night thru Thursday there is a clipper coming in from the north. It may bring some sprinkles but it will definitely bring in some cold air. Look for temps to possibly get below freezing Thursday night.

Next week expect a warm-up!

Wednesday night there will be a meteor shower around midnight. However, it is looking like it will be cloudy so that’s a bummer. If it is not cloudy then look in the area around Orion’s Belt. This shower doesn’t contain a lot of meteors but they are big so just be patient.
