Big Snow?!?!?!?!

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

What???

I have heard some rumors of 6-12 inches for tomorrow. Don’t believe it. Atleast not just yet.

<>This storm is complicated. Its actually two storms. One that has already formed and coming into our area tonight and tomorrow. This storm will do several important things for us. It will first drop some sleet, freezing rain and snow. Just a little. Maybe not even enough to cause accumulation but look for tricky travel tomorrow morning.Secondly, it will allow the cold front to move through, bringing cold air, which is obiviously vital for snowfall. The second low pressure is currently in the mid-west, and dipping into the southeast. It will form off the east coast, and supposively bring some major snow.

Some good new is that the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for all of MD except for the mountains.  But seriously, this doesn’t mean anything. Not until it turns into a Winter Storm Warning. Usually they put this out just to warn an area, then pull back to a Winter Weather Advisory.

If they were to pull back, a Winter Storm Warning would most likely be in place for the Eastern Shore and Southern Md, while we would have a Winter Weather Advisory.

We will know much more tomorrow morning, possibly tonight, about the track of this storm and how much of the wonderful white stuff will fall.

Tonight or tomorrow I will post some sort of map that will show what’s goin on.

Sunday Snow

Its a  Clipper!

A Clipper is a storm system that orginates in Alberta, Canada. It generally cuts across the Great Lakes and into the Northeast. They are usually pretty weak rarely bringing more than 4 inches of snow. Around here we normally get 1-3 inches from this type of storm.

Saturday night and Sunday morning a clipper will be moving through our area. Right now it looks like we will get a dusting to an inch of snow. However they’re some rumors about a secondary low forming off the coast.

Sometimes when Clippers dip down into the Mid-Atlantic, they transfer energy to a low pressure thats just chillin off the coast. As of now this new low pressure will not have much effect on us, mostly affecting the Eastern Shore.

Things can change.

Prediction

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Rain showers are currently moving into West Virginia, and partly breaking up while moving into the mountains.

Current temperature is 31 degrees, with a low of 29 tonight.

So any precipitation that comes before 9am-ish will be in the form of snow, atleast for places north of Howard County (Howard County temps will be below freezing until 8am). If those showers can hold up through the mountains there is a slight chance of a dusting of snow before 8am. Don’t count on it.

Those showers give us a small sliver of hope.

I think we will have a full day of school tomorrow. Small chance of two hour delay.

Full Day

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

I was away on vacation this weekend, so I am just now looking at all the weather stuff.

The storm tomorrow is looking not so good for us. It will start as snow, with a slight chance of snow showers from 7am-10am. This isn’t too promising. After 10am it is supposed to warm up really fast. Already 35 degrees by 10.

If we were to get anything tomorrow we would get a delay. However this is unlikely.

In past events we have gotten very lucky, and a snow shower got through to us and dropped a quick dusting of snow. This could always happen as the very beginning of the system moves trough. We need luck.

I will update at 9pm with final predictions.

Storms/Wind Tonight

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

What great weather!!! Warm as a pooch.

Storms will arrive in our area sometime from 8:00 to 10:00 o’clock tonight. With these storms will contain extremely gusty winds and some heavy downpours. Watch out for possible power outages.

However, this weekend and next week winter will return.

Booooo

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

I apologize for the lack of a two-hour delay this morning. If its any compensation, I know why we didn’t get out. Its not that complicated.

<> It wasn’t really the lack of snow. All night we had a very light light snow. When you left for school you should’ve noticed about an inch or less of new snow on the ground. On the ground, but not on the roads. If it were on the roads, it would’ve been a definite two-hour delay, atleast.
<>Yesterday the temperature around here got up to the mid 50’s. These temps warmed up the roads pretty good. This warmth stuck around. Before the end of the day, the road temperatures were in the 70’s! How crazy is that.

Even though it was below freezing last night, the roads kept some of their warmth from the previous day, which caused every single flake of snow to melt on contact.

Its Game Time

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Alright….

Good news- The temperatures will be below freezing tonight and throughout tomorrow morning. The snow is coming at the most perfect time(4am-9am). The radar shows slight shifting (of the low) to the north and west (meaning possibly more snow).

<>Bad news-  No weather service has changed their prediction in snow amounts for our area. The temperatures were really warm today, meaning I have no clue how long it will take the roads to get below freezing.Ay carrumba.

I really really want to say no school, but I just can’t when they’re only calling for an inch or so in our area, if that.

Weather services are going update later tonight, so when they do, and if they update for the better, I will update this site, and may change my prediction.

Prediction:

I am feeling a Two-Hour Delay. If we are to get off tomorrow, we will certainly get a two-hour delay before the cancel school, so keep checking the tv.

I believe there are better chances of us going a full day then getting no school. I hope that made sense.

Check tonight, just incase I update and change predictions. Peace. <>

Just a little bit.

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

We will forever be snowless. Atleast somewhat snowless.

Looks like we will have 1-2 inches divided up between tonight and tomorrow.

Tonight we will get a dusting to an inch. Then tomorrow midday we will get another dusting to an inch.

The reason for this is… The initial coldfront will move through tonight. This cold front comes equipped with a low pressure. This will bring us the first batch of snow. And it will be very light.

After the low moves across Maryland it will intensify greatly off the coast. Even though the storm will blow-up off the coast, it will be too far east to bring us any significant snowfall. However, some light snow accumulation is possible tomorrow morning/midday.

So what does this mean for school tomorrow…? I don’t know. haha

Well I am feelin an early dismissal tomorrow. Atleast right now. I will update later tonight with the final prediction.
