Friday, March 21st, 2008

There is a clipper moving through this weekend, coming in tonight and early tomorrow morning. It is expected to start as a snow/rain mix, then change to all rain. No accumulation is expected at the moment, but things can change. I’ll update if anything changes.

Pooch of the Week!!!

Pooch of the Week!!

Name: Beethoven. Owner: Phillip Holbrook. Age: 12

Beethoven

Beethoven is 12 years young and still lovin life. He is a true success story and looked up to in the Pooch world. When Beethoven was a young pup, he was found on the side of the road in the Blizzard of ‘96. This is when the Holbrooks adopted Beethoven into their family. Ever since he has filled the world with joy. Beethoven still lives his life to the fullest. He enjoys chasing squirrels, fetching rocks that are thrown out of site, and catching flies and bees in mid-air. While playing jubilantly outside, he is calm inside. He is well mannered at the dinner table and always obeys commands given to him. We are lucky to have Beethoven in this world, and he will forever be seen as a hero to many young pooches. This is why Beethoven is Pooch of the Week.

Tonight there is a slight chance of some flurries or rain showers because of a clipper system moving through. Temps are probably not gonan get below freezing, so dont expect anything to effect school. This week expect temperatures from the upper 30’s to upper 50’s and lower 60’s. There is nothing forecasted to affect wintry this week, however rain is expected friday and saturday.

Strong Storm

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect from about 4 to 445 for all of Carroll County. Winds gusting up to 60 mph occurred and small hail was present. The cold front moving through was the cause of these strong storms.

The wall cloud (top) was the beginning of the thunderstorm that came through Sykesville, as it dropped hail, rain and even a strike of lightning. Hail can be seen on the greeting mat on my proch.

Weekend

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

Rain showers on and off will persist throughout the day today. Expect thunderstorms later this afternoon. After all the of the cold front moves through, it will get windy, and cooler. A wind advisory is in effect for Carroll County and much of Maryland. 30-40 mph winds are expected to be sustained later this afternoon, with gusts up to 50mph. Isolated power outages may occur. Sunday its going to much colder. High of 42 and a low of 28. It will be windy earlier in the day, and calm as the day goes on.

Winter is looking baadddddddddddd. Nothing wintry is expected anytime soon. However, Wednesday there is a clipper moving in from the great lakes effecting Pennsylvania and New York. It is expected to stay North of us, but things can change. It is very close from hitting us, so just tune in for updates early this week.

Four hundred miles to the west of us, its a blizzard. Ohio is getting slammed with over a foot and a half of snow. Next year better be one amazing winter.

Pooch of the week will be announced tomorrow!

Winter’s Last Gasp?

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

It doesn’t look like winter is going to have a last gasp Friday and Saturday. Looks like this system is going to be just plain old rain. Definitely too warm. High tomorrow 54 with a low of 32.  Mostly Sunny all day Thursday. Then Friday the rain will start up and go all the way into Saturday. Sunday and Monday its going to be a little bit chillier but it will warm right back up Tuesday and Wednesday. Sorry nothing exciting is going to happen over the next couple of days. Im really hoping sometime we can get a last breath of winter however time is running out. Check for updates later.

Afternoon Update

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Tonight will be a very rainy and stormy night. We are still under a flood watch and a tornado watch has just been put in place. A very intense area of precip will be heading our are tonight. I’d say the really heavy rain will start around 8. The rain will continue for a good part of the night and end tomorrow morning. Watch out for severe weather tonight.

Later this week there is still some talk of a winter storm. It seems like its going to be to warm but you never know, things may change in a few days. Things have been looking better however for later in the week. High temperatures have been brought down for Friday and Saturday, and the storm appears it will hit, even though it may just be all rain. Check for updates tomorrow and later tonight for the severe weather.

Evening Update

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Tomorrow it is going to be very warm. High around 65, maybe even greater. However, big weather system moving through.

Tomorrow afternoon there will be a cold front moving through bringing, rain, wind and thunderstorms. Right now we are under a Flood Watch because of the inch greater of rain expected in such a short amount of time. Watch out for severe thunderstorms tomorrow. Temperatures will be cooler on Wednesday. Probably 15 degrees cooler than Tuesday.

Storm

The snow showers that were expected Thursday night look like they may only be rain showers. I just dont think its gonna be cold enough for any accumulation of snow or maybe even any snow at all. I’ll update later about the end of the week.
