Ida’s Leftovers
Wednesday, November 11th, 2009Ida is slamming the coast of Maryland, Delaware, the Carolinas, and Virginia. Ida’s remains is currently intensifying off the East Coast. Look for another inch possible from the storm through tomorrow night. Winds will be gusting around 25 mph, with steady winds around 15 mph. Ocean City, MD is going to get a pounding from this storm. Lots of beach erosion and possibly wind gusts of 60 mph.
“Ida” is currently being suppressed from traveling northward by a fairly strong high pressure that is sitting over the southern Canada. These pressure differences are interacting with each other causing relatively large pressure differences over a small area. The high pressure wants to come to equilibrium and therefore a wind flow from high pressure to low pressure is then created. When the pressure differences are large and over a small area, the wind wants to rush from high pressure to low pressure faster.
Meteor shower next week! Earth will pass through the leftovers of the comet Tempel-Tuttle which causes the Leonid meteor shower. The Leonid meteor shower will occur on November 17th/18th. This would be Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. Wednesday morning will be the best viewing time. Hopefully there are clear skies!
Oh by the way, meteorologists really screwed up on Ida forecast. It wasn’t even supposed to come up this way! This Sunday look for a little warmer temps (mid 60s), but then remain in the 50’s for the beginning of next week.
