Rain Rain Go Away…

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Don’t melt my snow pack away…

A little rain is in stock for tomorrow. Nothing huge, maybe a quarter to half an inch of precip. May cause some minor flooding, as storm drains aren’t accessible.

As for snow… Well things may actually be normal this week. That’s a first. But surely, there will be another snow storm before winter ends.

People in the north-northeast may get pounded with a couple snow storms. It’s there chance to get in on a little action, which they can handle.

For updates everyday, check out the Foot’s Forecast video feed!

Have a great week everyone!

Tonight and Tomorrow (12/30)

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Sorry for the lack of an update. Storm will begin around 4am with some light snow. Sometime during the night it will mix in with snow, sleet, and freezing rain. After 11am its looking like it will be all rain. Accumulation of 1-3 inches of snow and sleet can be expected. The it will all be washed away!<> We were pretty close to the all snow line. If the storm were stronger the low would have pulled in cold air and we would have been in for a nice snow storm. Of course thats how it ended up last time so we can’t be greedy. In the long range, different atmospheric conditions in the coming to weeks are favorable for a good east coast storm. I will let you know how its looking!

Snow now… Rain later

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Snow now mixed with sleet. Expect it to change to rain during the overnight hours.

Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect calling for 1-2inches of snow and sleet.

Sorry about this changes in forecast, the National Weather Service had some trouble with this one.

Tomorrow I expect a full day of school, but would be delighted with a delay.

Mid Week Soaker

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Gotta a big storm soaking us currently. Rain will last until Thursday morning. One to two inches can be expected, with the higher amounts being where thunderstorms have affected. Flood Watch is currently in effect for our area, so watch out for ponding on roads especially in thunderstorms.  Expect it to warm up Thursday after the storm, along with breezy conditions.

This weekend is looking alright for snow. Noaa.gov has a snow-rain mix. Accuweather is thinking 1-3 inches for our region. Coastal low will form off of Carolina coast and skirt the edge of the east coast. This will take place Saturday and Saturday night, with the nighttime being the main snow accumulating time period.  I will go into further detail tomorrow and Friday.

Ida’s Leftovers

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Ida is slamming the coast of Maryland, Delaware, the Carolinas, and Virginia. Ida’s remains is currently intensifying off the East Coast. Look for another inch possible from the storm through tomorrow night. Winds will be gusting around 25 mph, with steady winds around 15 mph. Ocean City, MD is going to get a pounding from this storm. Lots of beach erosion and possibly wind gusts of 60 mph.

“Ida” is currently being suppressed from traveling northward by a fairly strong high pressure that is sitting over the southern Canada. These pressure differences are interacting with each other causing relatively large pressure differences over a small area. The high pressure wants to come to equilibrium and therefore a wind flow from high pressure to low pressure is then created. When the pressure differences are large and over a small area, the wind wants to rush from high pressure to low pressure faster.

Meteor shower next week! Earth will pass through the leftovers of the comet Tempel-Tuttle which causes the Leonid meteor shower. The Leonid meteor shower will occur on November 17th/18th. This would be Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. Wednesday morning will be the best viewing time. Hopefully there are clear skies!

Oh by the way, meteorologists really screwed up on Ida forecast. It wasn’t even supposed to come up this way! This Sunday look for a little warmer temps (mid 60s), but then remain in the 50’s for the beginning of next week.

Rain rain…

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Friday afternoon several lines of storms continued to come through our area dropping about 2 inches and producing some crazy awesome lightning. Right now (Friday Night) another line of thunderstorms is passing through our area with more downpours and lightning. Some may wonder why this continues to happen when its not a very large system but just individual lines of storms. Well I have an answer.

There is a mid-latitude trough located above the Great Lakes and it is currently charging south and east. As it moves south it surges up all the moisture and clouds that are situated in the south right near the Gulf of Mexico. Normally something like this would move through fast with a cold front and then our atmospheric conditions would change right after the thunderstorms move through. Well, Hurricane Bill is inhibiting this from happening. It will not let the airmass move through. The two systems act as a funnel  and in the middle of the funnel is the East Coast. Pretty cool interaction.

To better understand what I am talking about here is some water vapor imagery of the U.S. The black areas are areas of little water vapor and the white is the opposite. There are two black areas to the west and east of us. The one to the west is the drier air mass and the one to the east is Hurricane Bill’s outflow.  Once Bill moves through this interaction will end and so will the thunderstorms.

Saturday expect the same thing. Thunderstorms will be off and on almost all day. I love the interesting weather!

Check for severe weather updates later today.

Flash Flood Watch

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

At 2pm a flash flood watch will be implemented for our area. The current forecast is that the heaviest rain will hit this afternoon, but I think that its going to be here a litte earlier than that. I’d say the heaviest rain will be around here at about 11am.All this heavy rain is in front of a cold front, and when the cold front moves through there is a chance of thunderstorms, however I think the chance of thunderstorms is very low after the cold front moves through.Precip totals may get into 2-3 inches today, so watch out for some flooding.Check out the radar on page to the left and you can see the storms.Check back for updates on watches and warnings.

Strong T’Storms

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

There is a huge line of stong thundestorms headed our way now. It looks like it will arrive hear around 4:40. We are currently under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, and Flash Flood Warning.

<> This thunderstorm will bring gusty winds, powerful lightning, massive downpours, and small hail. I think that hail is very possible, because there is a huge updraft with this line of storms. Cold front combining with a really humid and hot mass of air. Watch out for the massive downpour. Because we have gotten so much rain this week, and even a lot of rain this morning, the roads are very vunerable to flooding. Isolated power outages are also possible with this line of storms.

<> Stay safe and enjoy the lightning! I’m excited for this one. Strongest thunderstoms I’ve seen all year around here.

Full Day

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

I was away on vacation this weekend, so I am just now looking at all the weather stuff.

The storm tomorrow is looking not so good for us. It will start as snow, with a slight chance of snow showers from 7am-10am. This isn’t too promising. After 10am it is supposed to warm up really fast. Already 35 degrees by 10.

If we were to get anything tomorrow we would get a delay. However this is unlikely.

In past events we have gotten very lucky, and a snow shower got through to us and dropped a quick dusting of snow. This could always happen as the very beginning of the system moves trough. We need luck.

I will update at 9pm with final predictions.

Storms/Wind Tonight

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

What great weather!!! Warm as a pooch.

Storms will arrive in our area sometime from 8:00 to 10:00 o’clock tonight. With these storms will contain extremely gusty winds and some heavy downpours. Watch out for possible power outages.

However, this weekend and next week winter will return.
